(Sultan Palas Hotel)
Near Dalyan, Turkey.

The superb beach of Iztuzu (Turtle Beach) is 6Km of golden sand and safe bathing. It is reached from Dalyan along a river flanked by reed beds. This beach is one of the last breeding grounds of the Loggerhead Turtle. On the way you pass the ruins of Caunos and can see the famous Lycian Cave Tombs. These tombs can be seen from Dalyan and you can take a boat across the river to look at them and the archaeological site of Caunos which has a forum, amphitheater, bathhouse, agora and temple, all of which are worth a visit. The Dalyan river connects the sea and the large inland lake of Koycegiz which is an extensive area of natural beauty and supports a wide variety of fish, wild fowl and animals. One can often see large fresh water turtles and migratory birds, especially storks.

Dalyan's famous mud bath is only 10 minutes walk from the hotel (go before breakfast and miss the boat trippers). There are many walks and strolls in the area immediately surrounding the hotel - you can even walk to the ruins of Caunos over the hill if you are energetic, or by boat from Dalyan.
The 12-island boat-swim trip in the bay of Fethiye is an enjoyable day out and visits to the bustling towns of Marmaris and Fethiye are worth a visit. Dalyan's Saturday market will tempt you with spice, low priced "designer label" clothing, gifts and many other treats. There are several carpet shops and you may well succumb to the beauty of a hand-made Turkish carpet.

The gardens are a delight with many palm trees and flowers attracting butterflies and bees. Birds of prey and storks are often seen flying overhead. The sound of goat bells and braying donkeys can be heard nearby. The pool is surrounded by seating, shady areas and a beautiful view in every direction.
The Sultan Palace Hotel, uniquely located, on the Dalyan River.
