From Athens to the southwest lie the bustling Saronic Islands and the Peloponnese coast both a delight to explore with numerous anchorages and tiny harbours. From Spetse sail into the Gulf of Argolis as far as Navplion, ancient capital of Greece then down the coast to old villages of Astros and Kiparissia and on to Monemvassia. Distances are short and the sailing undemanding.
For children the area is ideal. They can swim and snorkel in safe waters, row ashore in the dinghy, play on the perfect beaches, scramble over the rocks to try their skill at catching the local octopus.
The Cyclades Islands lie to the south east of Athens and include Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini.
